Vance Peterson

Vance Peterson brings more than 35 years of higher education leadership and six years of search experience at AGB Search. He was President of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the international association of educational institutions which serves more than 80,000 advancement professionals representing more than 3,600 institutions in 82 countries. He also served as President of Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nevada, that state’s only independent four-year college.

For AGB Search, Dr. Peterson has conducted searches for a wide variety of senior leadership positions at both public and private institutions including:

  • Tacoma Community College (WA) - President; Provost
  • State University of New York (SUNY) Purchase - Vice President for Advancement
  • Ohio Northern University - Vice President for Advancement
  • San Jose State University (CA) -  Assistant Vice President for Development; Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications
  • Nevada System of Higher Education - Chancellor

Dr. Peterson goes about a search for each client as if he were building, or re-building, his own team. He has developed several award-winning advancement teams in past assignments. He served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Occidental College, where he directed the successful “Compass for A New Century” comprehensive campaign.  He also was Vice President for University Advancement and President of the Foundation at California State University, Northridge. He previously served as Associate Director of University Development at UCLA during its first comprehensive fundraising campaign “An Investment in the Future” and before that as Executive Director of University Relations at the University of Southern California, where he oversaw university communications. 

Dr. Peterson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Occidental College (CA), a Master of Science in Administration from The George Washington University (Washington, D.C.), and a Ph.D. in Administration and Policy Analysis in Higher Education from Stanford University (CA).
