Norfolk State University, located in Norfolk, Virginia, is pleased to announce its search for the University's next Dean of the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work. NSU, a Historically Black College/University, seeks nominations and applications for a visionary, strategic and collaborative leader to serve as Dean of the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work. The School was established in 1960 and is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). It offers the BSW, MSW and PhD degrees in Social Work and enjoys the distinction of the only HBCU School of Social Work established in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Dean’s position is a full-time 12- month senior level faculty/administrative position. The Dean will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer of the school.
The successful candidate must possess an earned Masters of Social Work an equivalent Masters of Social Work degree and a Ph.D. in Social Work from an accredited institution. The next Dean will demonstrate experience in collaborative team building and student-centered engagement, organizational management in strategic planning, resource allocation, fundraising, and risk management as well as exemplary experience in developing programs and community networking processes. Five years of social work practice and teaching experience are also required.
Founded in 1935, Norfolk State College was brought to life during the Great Depression. More than 40 years later, university status was attained. Today the University serves approximately 5,100 students and has five academic colleges/schools and 49 degree programs that operate on one campus.
