Stony Brook University, a growing public research university on Long Island, is seeking a Director of Development for the School of Communication and Journalism to join a dynamic and successful advancement division that is celebrating the arrival of a new vice president for advancement.
Reporting to senior leadership in advancement in collaboration with the School of Communication and Journalism (SoCJ) Dean, the Director will serve as the principal advisor on all fundraising matters related to the SoCJ and the Alda Center. The Director will work closely with the Dean and Advancement leadership to design, support, and successfully implement a comprehensive advancement strategy and program for the School and the Alda Center that meets specific goals for short- and long-term private support.
With a primary focus on major gifts, the Director of Development will design, strengthen, and grow a full pipeline of prospects, from discovery through stewardship, using a data-driven approach paired with outstanding interpersonal competencies. A bachelor’s degree is required, as is four years of full-time fundraising experience in a higher education institution, a large non-profit, or complex healthcare system (or sales or related experience). A proven record of cultivating and successfully soliciting individual donors or institutions for major ($100,000+) gifts is required.
