The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC) seeks an Executive Director of Compensation Strategy (ED) who will think strategically about shaping compensation philosophy and career pathing in support of the talented Illinois workforce, as well as bring an energy and enthusiasm for accomplishing the important work of this role.
The ED is the leader of the Compensation Center of Expertise (COE) within Illinois Human Resources (IHR) and will position UIUC as a leading employer of choice. Reporting to the Assistant Chancellor for HR Centers of Expertise and working closely with the Senior Associate Chancellor for Human Resources, the ED provides leadership for the development, implementation, communication, and administration of compensation and classification programs. They function as the chief expert on compensation with a strategic partnership approach, delivering executive level presentations, employee communications, and consultation services, as well as providing oversight for compensation and classification administration functions.
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is one of the original 37 public land-grant institutions created after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Morrill Act in 1862. The university is in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana (total population 207,000) in east-central Illinois and is optimally situated 140 miles south of Chicago, 125 miles west of Indianapolis, and 180 miles northeast of St. Louis.
The successful candidate will possess ten years of Human Resources experience with a minimum of seven years focused in compensation development, administration, and management. A minimum of five years supervisory experience managing a highly effective and efficient operation is required, with a strong preference for experience managing a compensation and classification division. A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or another relevant field is also required; a master’s degree is preferred.
