Washington, District Of Columbia
The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) seeks an Executive Vice President (EVP) who will serve as AGB’s higher education board governance expert, to ensure that the Association continues to create and deliver accurate, contemporary, and consistent board governance content, events, and services to address members’ challenges and opportunities.
As an important outcome, the EVP will fortify and confirm AGB’s position, gained over its more than 100 years of service to higher education, as the thought leader of higher education board governance. Further, the EVP will strengthen the alignment of AGB with higher education governing boards, ensuring that AGB will serve as their primary resource to address current and emerging issues, challenges and opportunities. The EVP will report directly to Henry Stoever, AGB’s President and CEO, and will serve as a member of the AGB Leadership Team (LT). The EVP will take primary responsibility for leading and overseeing strategic planning for AGB as well as championing leading practices of higher education governing boards. In addition, they will maximize relevance for and engagement with the Association’s more than 1,300 members, representing college, system, university, institutionally related foundation, and coordinating boards.
The EVP will have at least five years of senior, on-campus higher education leadership experience, with evidence of line responsibilities working with public, private, and/or system governing boards. Experience as a college, university, or system chief executive officer or chief academic officer, with a deep understanding of the turbulence of higher education is especially desirable. In this way, the EVP will be able not only to ensure that executive empathy and relevance are infused through AGB’s member-focused content, events and services, but also to better position governing boards to engage consequentially with their presidents and administrative members. Service as a trustee of a college or university is a plus to help curate practical, easy-to-consume resources that strengthen AGB’s member value proposition and engagement with the Association.
AGB is the premier membership organization that strengthens higher education governing boards and the strategic roles they serve within their organizations. Through our vast library of resources, educational events, executive search services, and consulting practice, and with more than 100 years of experience, we empower 40,000 AGB members from more than 2,000 institutions and foundations to navigate complex issues, implement leading practices, streamline operations, and govern with confidence. AGB is the trusted resource for board members, chief executives, and key administrators on higher education governance and leadership.
