Johnson C. Smith University, an HBCU founded in 1868, seeks a seasoned, innovative leader who will serve as the chief academic officer of the university while partnering with the president to implement a progressive and evolving strategy for excellence and growth. Located in Charlotte, NC, the university is located within the city’s vibrate core.
President Armbrister has focused his energies outward, with the goal of developing closer ties with the community, positioning JCSU as the institution that is best equipped to deal with issues of inequality and race, diversifying the university’s income stream to make JCSU less tuition dependent, dramatically increasing the endowment, and creating a student pipeline that draws minority students to the school. The SVPAA will work closely with the President to translate his vision into academic success, while assisting him in community outreach, fundraising for academic programs and helping the Deans become effective spokespersons and fundraisers for their colleges.
The Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs will be a seasoned leader who eagerly embraces the unique role of an HBCU in the American educational landscape. He/she will possess a terminal degree and present a record of teaching excellence, as well as serious and sustained scholarship. Successful experience in managing change is highly desired. Experience in community relations and fundraising is a plus. Further details are provided in the search profile (downloadable above).
