Position Details

Dickinson State University (DSU) seeks applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration. The successful applicant will join a talented leadership team in its commitment to the intellectual, social, economic, and cultural development of the southwestern North Dakota region.

Founded in 1918, Dickinson State University provides high quality, accessible programs to a student population of nearly 1,400, representing 34 states and 19 countries. The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The vice president and division staff embrace the University's students-first focus and strive to provide sound university-wide fiscal guidance. A member of the President's Cabinet, the vice president is the University's chief financial officer and a part of the North Dakota University System (NDUS) Administrative Affairs Council.

The Vice President for Finance and Administration must adhere to the University's core values of integrity, accessibility, excellence, inquiry, and innovation. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice President for Finance and Administration is responsible for the leadership, management, direction, control, and coordination of administrative and financial activities of the University. The officer will develop facilities and institutional master planning consistent with DSU’s strategic plan and NDUS policies. He or she will support DSU’s teaching, learning, and scholarship vision through guiding financial stability in stringent budgetary times. The officer oversees the institutional processes for operation and capital budgets, financial systems and policies, and compliance with applicable institution and system policies, and state and federal regulations and laws.

The Finance and Administration division consists of the following areas:

  • Business Affairs
  • Human Resources
  • Facility Operations
  • Information Technology Systems
  • Public Safety
  • Mailroom
  • Contracted areas (e.g., bookstore, food services)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field;
  • Evidence of ability to handle increasing responsibility in areas related to budgeting, accounting, capital planning, financial controls, and financial reporting;
  • Demonstrated capacity to undertake facilities and institutional master planning in keeping with the University's and system's strategic plans;
  • Transparent, collaborative, decisive, and team leadership with cogent written and spoken skills;
  • Broad in-depth familiarity with financially related higher education state and federal laws;
  • Proficiency in fundraising, campaigns, and grants management support; and
  • Strong understanding of information technology capabilities and applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or professional credentialing in accounting or finance;
  • Politically savvy with thoughtful, creative, and visionary insight for fiscal direction;
  • Understanding of non-profit or government accounting; and
  • Experience in accounting or finance.
