Clark Atlanta University (CAU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs.

The Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs (VPRSP) advances the university’s efforts to foster knowledge creation and creative discovery as part of its mission as an urban Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the heart of the city of Atlanta. The VPRSP is responsible for growing the research enterprise and for growing and managing the grant portfolio of the institution. The VPRSP reports to the Provost and facilitates internal collaborations among the schools, departments, and research centers and facilitates external engagement through CAU’s participation in the Atlanta University Center Consortium and the state-side Georgia Research Alliance. The VPRSP will promote additional research activities with other universities, research laboratories, and government entities to support innovation, collaboration, and technology-driven economic development for the region.

Clark Atlanta University is a private, coeducational, historically black, four-year university located in Atlanta, GA. It is designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a “Doctoral University – High Research Activity.” The University’s students are engaged in 38 areas of study in four schools: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education and the Whitney M. Young, Jr., School of Social Work. Clark Atlanta University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to offer bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees.

The VPRSP will be a proven leader with a dynamic and inclusive nature and will be able to articulate the contribution and importance of research to the success of the university. The leadership of the VPRSP will be characterized by impeccable integrity and a genuine desire to promote the pursuit of excellence by the institution’s students, faculty, and staff.  Through the leveraging of the strengths of CAU’s faculty and students, the VPRSP will raise the stature and renown of the university as its research scope and reach expand.

The VPRSP will possess a distinguished record of accomplishments and leadership in research; the capacity to effectively manage budgets and programs; and the ability to inspire and unite faculty, students, and research partners in various common research pursuits. The VPRSP will work to support a seamless system for grant development, management, and administration as faculty members increase their grant proposal and award activities.  The VPRSP will have a primary focus on implementing a strategic agenda to secure and manage extramural funding and elevating the profile of grant writing and scholarly activity.
