
Dr. Muhammad “Mud” Alvi has been appointed as the new Chair of the Department of Neurosciences at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. Dr. Alvi is an academic neurologist and vascular neurology subspecialist with more than a decade of experience leading comprehensive stroke programs and regional care networks. He currently serves at WVU Medicine as a board-certified vascular neurologist, Full Professor, Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs, Section Chief of Vascular Neurology, and Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center. He brings significant experience in rural health system leadership, having built and provided strategic oversight for a 26-hospital hub-and-spoke telestroke network spanning four states and expanding access to specialty care in medically underserved communities. Dr. Alvi earned his M.D. from Sindh Medical College in Pakistan and a Healthcare MBA from West Virginia University.
