Dr. Kelly Chaney

Morningside College has selected Dr. Kelly Chaney as their new Dean of the Sharon Walker School of Education. Dr. Chaney most recently served as the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies at Marian University, having previously served Marian as the Dean of the School of Education.  Prior to her tenure at Marian she served Blackburn College, Carlinville, Illinois, for eight years as a Professor of Education and Education Department Chair.

Dr. William F. “Bill” Tate IV

Dr. William F. “Bill” Tate IV has been appointed as the new Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost of the University of South Carolina. Dr. Tate is currently Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education at Washington University in St. Louis. At Washington University, Tate has held academic and research appointments including in African and African American studies, American culture studies, Center for Applied Statistics and Computation, Institute for Public Health, social policy, urban studies and education. Prior to joining the faculty at Washington University, he held the William L. and Betty F. Adams Chair at Texas Christian University and spent a decade on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He earned his doctorate in mathematics education with a cognate in human development from the University of Maryland, a master’s degree in psychiatric epidemiology from the Washington University School of Medicine, a MAT in mathematical sciences education from the University of Texas at Dallas and a bachelor's degree in economics from Northern Illinois University. Hanover College has selected Dr. Carey Adams as it's new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Dr. Adams was most recently the vice president for academic affairs at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, and previously served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Armstrong State University and dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Missouri State University. Dr. Adams earned his doctorate in communications from the University of Kansas, his master’s degree in communications from Baylor University, and his bachelor’s degree from William Jewell College. Dr. Matthew J. Smith

Radford University has named Dr. Matthew Smith as permanent Dean of the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences effective February 25, 2020.  Dean Smith has served as interim Dean since 2018.  Prior to Dean Smith's interim role, he served as Director and Professor of Communication since joining Radford in 2016. Dean Smith received a bachelor's degree in English from West Liberty State College; a master's degree in English from Ohio University; and a doctorate in Interpersonal Communication from Ohio University. Dr. Robert (Bob) Beatty

Mount Mercy University’s Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Robert (Bob) Beatty to serve as its 10th president, effective July 1, 2020.  Dr. Beatty has served as the dean of the Soules College of Business and F.M. and Fannie Burke Professor at the University of Texas at Tyler, the dean of the Lutgert College of Business at Florida Gulf Coast University, the dean of the Rohrer College of Business at Rowan University, and the dean of the School of Business at Whitworth University. He was a member of the faculty at Northern Illinois University, Texas Christian University, Miami University, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Beatty began his professional career as an officer in the United States Air Force. Dr. Beatty earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Texas Christian University, a Master of Computer Science Management from Creighton University, and a Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Business Administration from Mississippi State University. He is a graduate of the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education Program at Harvard University.  Read more here.

Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Trudy Milburn

Southern Connecticut State University has appointed Dr. Trudy Milburn as its new Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Milburn currently serves as assistant Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Science and as Director of Academic Programs at Purchase College, State University of New York. Previously, she was the founder of the Communication Program at California State University, Channel Island where she also worked as co-director of the Center for Community Engagement.  At Baruch College, CUNY, Dr. Milburn was Deputy Director of the Graduate Studies Program in Corporate Communication. She also served six years as the Director of Campus Solutions at Taskstream, where she provided consultations in online and onsite software programs that brought her into close alignment with many accreditation agencies. Dr.Milburn holds a BA in Rhetoric and Communication from the University of California, Davis, an MA in Speech Communication from Texas A&M University, and a PhD in Communication from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
Dr. Bruce Kalk

Southern Connecticut State University has appointed Dr. Bruce Kalk as the new Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Kalk joined the faculty at Southern in 1992 as Assistant Professor of History.  He worked his way up through the faculty ranks, serving also as Chair of the Department of History, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and then Interim Dean.  He received his baccalaureate degree from the College of William and Mary and his master’s and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He is the author of The Origins of the Southern Strategy: Two-Party Competition in South Carolina, 1950-1972.

Dr. James M. Reynolds

Milliken University has announced the appointment of Dr. James M. Reynolds as its 16th president, effective July 1, 2020. Dr. Reynolds currently serves as President of Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio, a position he's held since 2012. Prior to Wilmington College, Dr. Reynolds served as the academic vice president at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska. Previously, he held various teaching and administrative positions at Drake University, including Associate Dean and Interim Dean of the College of Pharmacy. Dr. Reynolds earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Drake University and a Master of Arts in Zoology from DePauw University. His Ph.D. in Biology is from Illinois State University.
