The Beacon College Board of Trustees and campus community seek a visionary and mission-driven leader to serve as the College's next president. Beacon’s next President will build on nearly four decades of pioneering work with students who learn differently and a growing brand and academic profile to guide the institution to its next era of academic strength, financial resilience, and global visibility. Following the distinguished tenure of President George J. Hagerty, the ideal candidate will be a visible, engaged, and relationship-centered leader who listens deeply, leads with conviction, and understands neurodivergent students not as an exception to the rule, but as the very reason for the work.
Located in Leesburg, FL and founded in 1989, Beacon College was the first accredited baccalaureate liberal arts institution in the nation dedicated exclusively to students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and related profiles. Guided by an entrepreneurial ethos and a holistic, high-touch developmental model, Beacon has become an internationally recognized innovator – honored at the United Nations and a founding member of the Global Higher Ed Disability Compact.
Beacon College enrolls approximately 500 undergraduates from 42 states and seven countries, alongside more than 450 students annually in its pre-enrollment college readiness programs. Beacon’s outcomes reflect the strength of its mission, faculty, and staff: a 90% first-to-second-year retention, a 71% six-year graduation rate, and recognition as Peterson's No. 1 college in the nation for students with learning disabilities. Equally importantly, the College has enjoyed consecutive years of operating surpluses and a growing endowment.
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated success in senior leadership at a higher education institution or similarly complex mission-driven organization; a strong strategic vision; and the ability to translate that vision into measurable and accountable goals. In addition, Beacon seeks a leader with significant financial acumen, a proven record of external resource development, and entrepreneurial leadership capable of expanding the College while preserving its core mission. Exceptional communication skills, a collaborative management style, and a genuine commitment to academic excellence and student outcomes are essential.
