Vice President for Academic Affairs

Seminole State College of Florida has appointed Dr. Loretta Ovueraye as its new Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Ovueraye currently serves as the Vice Provost for Workforce Programs and Professional Learning at Miami Dade College. Prior to her role as Vice Provost, Ovueraye served as Dean of Faculty at Miami Dade. Dr. Ovueraye served Miami Dade as the lead for the State of Florida Committee for Workforce Education (CWE), as well as a guided pathways coach for the Achieving the Dream network and Florida Success center. Dr. Ovueraye holds a B.S. in Microbiology from Edo State University (Nigeria), a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of London (UK) and earned her Ed. D. in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University.

Dean of the Beacom School of Business

Dr. Timothy O'Keefe has been appointed as the new dean of the Beacom School of Business at the University of South Dakota. He will assume his position June 22, 2023. Dr. O'Keefe is a seasoned leader with over 40 years of experience in higher education. As the former dean of the College of Business and Economics at Longwood University, Dr. O'Keefe initiated and led efforts to increase enrollment in the MBA program. Prior to that, he held various academic and administrative positions at the University of North Dakota. Dr. O'Keefe led both Longwood University and UND through accreditation processes with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Dr. O'Keefe earned his Ph.D. in Computer Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis in 1996 from the University of Arkansas College of Business, where he was also an AACSB National Doctoral Fellow. He earned his MBA from Moorhead State University in 1985 and his Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Mayville State University in 1981. Read more here.

Provost & Senior Vice Presient

Texas Southern University has announced the appointment of Dr. Carl Goodman as its new Provost and Senior Vice President. Since 2020, Dr. Goodman has served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Bowie State University (BSU). Prior to that, Dr. Goodman served as associate provost for academic affairs and student services at Florida A&M University (FAMU) and enjoyed a distinguished career in leadership roles within FAMU’s flagship program, the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences where he restructured a vibrant graduate program and developed a new Bachelor of Science program in the pharmaceutical sciences. He also brings a strong track record in securing grants. Dr. Goodman holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology/toxicology from Florida A&M University and a B.S. in biology and psychology from Jacksonville University. Associate Director of Development

Ms. Julianne Zuniga has been selected as the new Associate Director of Development for the Lam Family College of Business at San Francisco State University. She will begin her role on June 1, 2023. Ms. Zuniga began working at San Francisco State in 2017 as a Student Account Specialist and after 5 years in that position transitioned to Lead Gift Processor.  She is excited to continue working to help students from all backgrounds achieve their educational aspirations in this new position.  A proud two-time alumna, she received both her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and her master's degree in public administration from SFSU.

Chair, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health

Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) has appointed  Dr. Patricia Silveyra as the Chair of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) within the School of Public Health. She will begin on July 1, 2023. Dr. Silveyra has been Associate Professor in the EOH Department at IUB since 2021 and has served as the Interim Department Chair since 2022. Dr. Silveyra is an accomplished researcher whose work has advanced scientific understanding on the effects of sex, gonadal hormones, and environmental exposures on pulmonary health. She has authored three books, eight book chapters, and has contributed to over 60 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Silveyra received a B.S. and M.Sc. in Biological Sciences and a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires. Read more here.

Dean of the Lewis College of Business

Dr. Don Capener has been appointed as the new Dean of the Lewis College of Business at Marshall University. Dr. Capener has served at the highest levels of university administration for twenty years. After seven years as the dean of business at Jacksonville University, Dr. Capener became associate provost and graduate director of business at Utah Valley University. Dr. Capener is an active volunteer leader for AACSB having led peer review teams in China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan and nine US based business schools. In industry, Dr. Capener distinguished himself at international companies such as Leo Burnett. He founded several companies including his San Diego based marketing agency and Above the Rim Hoopwear, and served in executive positions with Netcentives and Chang Industrial. Dr. Capener earned his Ph.D. in International Business at the International School of Management, MBA in marketing at Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a B.A. in Political Science and Economics at Brigham Young University.
 

Director of the School of Nursing

Dr. Annette Ferguson has been appointed as the new Director of the School of Nursing at Marshall University. Dr. Ferguson has been an Associate Professor of Nursing at Marshall University since 2017. In the Fall of 2019, Dr. Ferguson served as the Director of the Pre-licensure BSN program until she was appointed the Interim Chair for the School of Nursing in 2022. She earned her Master of Science Degree in Nursing with a focus in Nursing Education from Regis University in Denver Colorado, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in leadership from Eastern Kentucky University. She has been a registered nurse for over 25 years with a focus in critical care and has worked in higher education as a nurse educator for over 18 years. Read more here.

Dean of the School of Pharmacy

Marshall University has appointed Dr. Eric Blough as the new Dean of the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Blough joined the faculty at Marshall University as Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences in 2003. In 2014, he became a full Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research. From 2015-2018 , he was the Assistant Dean of Curriculum before being appointed as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in 2018. He has been serving as the Interim Dean of the School since January of 2022 and has doubled the enrollment of MS program in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Blough earned a B.S. in Biology at Michigan Technological University, an M.S. in Exercise Physiology at Southern Illinois University, and a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology at Ohio State University. Dean of the College of Science

Marshall University has appointed Dr. Wesley Stites as the new Dean of the College of Science. Dr. Stites will begin on July 3rd, 2023. Dr. Stites comes to Marshall after more than 30 years at the University of Arkansas.  He began as a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, later serving for 5 years as the chair of that department.  Since 2019, Dr. Stites has been the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, managing more than 60 research centers, institutes, and core facilities.  He received a BA/MA in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Vice President for Research

Dr. Erin Rothwell has been appointed as the new Vice President for Research at the University of Utah (the U). She will begin her role on April 17, 2023. Dr. Rothwell has been with the University since 2000 and has been a tenured professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2019. She has held multiple roles related to the oversight of research, including Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Compliance, Interim President for University of Utah Research Foundation, and, most recently, Interim Vice President for Research. Prior to postdoctoral training in Public Health and Clinical Trials, Dr. Rothwell received a B.S. in Recreation Therapy and an M.S. in Parks and Recreation Management from University of South Alabama and Ph.D. in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism from the University of Utah.
